Avoiding Child Support Brings Harsh Consequences
Monday, January 31st, 2011Avoiding child support will only make matters worse. Unpaid child support doesn’t go away when your child turns 18 or if you declare bankruptcy go to jail or move to another state. The enforcement of unpaid child support allows a six percent interest penalty. That means the amount you owe only gets bigger with each month it goes unpaid. On the other hand, if your child comes to live with you, notify the child support office and request a change of status. Keep in mind, that you must continue to pay child support until your status with the attorney general’s child support office has changed.
Ignoring this step, will cause child support enforcement procedures to continue, interest penalties will continue to rise even though it can all be avoided by simply contacting the child support enforcement office.
